HANOI: Venezuelan Vice President Elias Jose Jaua Milano has affirmed his country’s commitment to making it easier, in terms of conditions and financial support, for joint oil and gas and agricultural projects with Vietnam.

The affirmation came after Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung raised difficulties facing Vietnamese investments, particularly in the oil and gas industry, in Venezuela, at his reception for the Vice President in Hanoi.

The Vice President told his host that President Nicolas Maduro has instructed the settlement of obstacles arising from oil and gas cooperation between the two countries.

PM Dung stated that Vietnam is determined to pump more investments into oil and gas in Venezuela while calling for the South American country’s support for an energy-saving light production project there.

He pledged full support for a future agriculture partnership with the South American country in response to the Vice President’s wish for assistance in the field.

He also affirmed that Vietnam always backs the constitutional Government of Venezuela and wished for the country’s stability and development.

According to the Venezuelan Vice President, at the freshly-ended meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee, the two sides reached consensus on re-launching many important joint projects.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai welcomed Vice President of Venezuela Elias Jose Jaua Milano in Hanoi on March 11.

At the meeting, the Deputy PM said he is glad that both sides agreed to expand cooperation into areas such as oil and gas, agriculture-forestry-aquaculture and industrial processing.

He said he believes that Vietnam will benefit a great deal from cooperating with Venezuela in agricultural development.

The Venezuelan Vice President briefed the host on the intergovernmental committee meeting between Vietnam and Venezuela held from March 9-11, saying both sides reviewed current areas of cooperation and ways to foster ties in various areas, including oil extraction.

Venezuela will also send more experts to Vietnam to help with irrigation systems for large-scale farms, he said.

Earlier in Hanoi on March 10, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc and visiting Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Xoan Pablo Noya discussed ways to increase bilateral cooperation during the fifth political consultation between the two foreign ministries.
