Violation of FTA, SROs: Appraisement-East detects tax evasion of Rs20m in 25 days

KARACHI: The Research and Development (R&D) Section of Model Customs Collectorate MCC Appraisement-East has detected and recovered around Rs20million of tax evasion in different means including violation of FTA, valuation guideline, exemption of undue SROs, incorrect values of PCT, mis-declaration of classification and valuation rulings till today.

According to details, the R&D team under the supervision of Collector MCC Appraisement-East Najeeb ur Rehman Abbasi has detected seven cases of revenue shortfall amounting to Rs22725333 in the current month of January and also issued demand notices to the alleged importers who were found in defrauding the national exchequer.

The R&D Section through Goods Declaration (GD) KAPE-HC-68664-040214 and KAPE-HC-37026-011113 has detected revenue shortfall of Rs129858 in implementing inadmissible FTA. The R&D Section has also detected a case of short recovery of Rs132730 through a GD KAPE-HC-77791-050115 in clearance of the electric acid consignments in terms of incorrect value.

It has also recovered an amount of Rs1425159 through a GD KAPE-HC-60969-281114 in which the importer was availing exemption in term of SRO-659(I)/2007 and SRO-1125(I)/2011 in clearance of artificial leather woven PU coated consignment, an amount of Rs476461 through GD KAPE-HC-66605-101214 in which the importer implemented incorrect PCT value in clearance of the consignments of badmintons rackets.

The R&D Section in its continued efforts in order to recover the leaking amount has detected an evasion of Rs16513636 through a GD KAPE-HC-42416-201113 in which the importer is committed in mis-declaration of value and classification.

In another case, the R&D team has detected a revenue shortfall amounting to Rs3504550 through a GD KAPE-HC-94412-220414 in which the importer was taking exemption of inadmissible under SRO-511/2008 in clearance of the consignment of flowering powder for preparation of food, along with Rs542939 through a GD KAPE-HC-79428-070115 in which the importer was attempting to clear the consignments of Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate through implicating incorrect valuation ruling and HS Code.

The Collector MCC Appraisement-East Najeeb ur Rehman Abbasi has expressed his satisfaction over the performance and detection of short revenue cases while asked the officers of the R&D Section to carry on their efforts in the same manner to recover more governmental revenue.
