VISAKHAPATNAM: For a second time in a week, the customs officials at Vizag International airport arrested two women passengers Saturday from whom they seized 4.2 kg of gold bars worth Rs 1.12 crore in the Indian market.
According to customs officials, the domestic passengers who tried to smuggle the contraband concealed it in their dress and arrived by the Air India flight from Dubai via Hyderabad. The customs officers who were on alert with the recent incident, intercepted the passengers on arrival at the airport. The officers said that the gold was valued at about Rs 1.2 crore in the domestic market. Both the accused were produced before the Special Judge for Economic Offences, Hyderabad, Monday and remanded in judicial custody till June 22. Investigation is on. The officers said that this was the highest amount of gold seized in Vizag airport since its inception.
