GENEVA: A German multinational automotive manufacturing company, Volkswagen has officially introduced the latest generation of its Touran mini-van in front of the audience during the 2015 Geneva motor show.

The MPV was unveiled recently online and now its full features can be seen in the metal during the days of the Switzerland auto show. The Touran has retained the characteristic boxy shape of MPVs, though the compact people carrier has also stretched its dimensions by 130 millimeters in length and by 113 mm in wheelbase. The more spacious cabin will be a blessing for the five or optional seven-seat configurations, with Vw even claiming the Touran to possess the largest cargo capacity (up by 48 liters to 1,040 liters). Thanks to the new folding seat arrangement that transforms the minivan into a commercial van with a flat floor, the cargo capacity can go all the way up to 1,980 liters. There’s also a more luxurious interior appearance, with the latest infotainment options that allow seamless integration of Google’s Android Auto and Apple’s Car Play.

The Touran is now lighter by 62 kg (136 lbs) and has a wide range of available engines under the hood. We have a 110 HP 1.2 TSI, a 150 HP 1.4 TSI, a 180 HP 1.8 TSI on the gasoline side and a 110 HP 1.6 TDI and two 2.0 TDIs that churn out 150 HP and 190 HP on the diesel side of the fence. All of the powerplants feature stop/start and brake energy recuperation systems that have lowered the average fuel consumption by up to 19 percent. The Touran – a family model – also boasts enhanced safety: adaptive cruise control, automatic post-collision braking, front assist with city emergency braking, traffic jam assist, side assist with rear traffic alert and trailer assist. Luxury seekers might want to brag with the new LED headlights and the tri-zone climate control system.
