DUBLIN: Volkswagen is recalling 1,256 Polo small cars in Ireland produced between 2010 and 2014 over potential leaks in the fuel line.

The recall also affects Skoda Fabia and Roomster models, along with certain Seat cars, which are powered by the same 1.2-litre TDI engine and built within the same time period.

According to a Volkswagen, in some cases, because of the pressure pulsations in the fuel lines and the engine pulsations when driving, vibrations can be transmitted to the cover of the fuel filter. This can crack the filter cover in the area of the supply neck which can lead to a fuel smell inside the vehicle and a leak of diesel fuel. In extreme circumstances such leaks could lead to a risk of fire.
