SHANGHAI: Volkswagen’s latest version of its Scirocco GTS hot hatch unveiled ahead of next week’s Shanghai Auto Show.
Sitting below the hero R model in overseas markets, the 2015 GTS combines elements of the old and new Golf GTI models in a newly refreshed package.
Riding again on the platform that underpinned the Golf 5 and 6 models, the Scirocco GTS drops its old 155kW engine to instead take power from the same 162kW 2.0 litre turbo mill that drives the new Golf GTI.
Six-speed manual and DSG auto transmissions are available, and Volkswagen claims that either configuration will propel the GTS to 100km/h in 6.5 seconds.
The updated GTS hits Europe in May, and a Chinese launch will occur in the following months.
