BERLIN: A German multinational automotive manufacturing company, Volkswagen has showed off teaser sketch of its new-generation Transporter to replace the 12 year-old T5 model in April.
Volkswagen gave buyers their first look at the new T6 last year, when it revealed the Transporter-based Tristar concept in Frankfurt.
But, while the Tristar was built on top of the current T5 model, the new T6 Transporter is expected to ride on a version of Volkswagen’s MQB platform, which already underpins models like the Golf and the new Passat.
The Tristar’s production-ready styling, however, is undoubtedly a preview of what we’ll see with the new Transporter, evolving the sharp features of the facelifted T5 and Volkswagen’s wider range.
The release offers a first look at the new vans behind, shown here in passenger-hauling form. Apart from the giant wheels, there is little in this sketch that is not ready for a showroom debut.
It is also expected that the Tristar’s mostly production-ready cabin will transition to the new Transporter with very few changes, although the large swivel-hinged tablet computer will likely not make the leap. (Although, functionally, there is little to stop Volkswagen from introducing such a feature.)
The new Transporter will make its official debut on April 15. Watch for it to bring a range of petrol and diesel engines, along with a variety of body styles, with it.
