BERLIN: German carmaker Volkswagen was expected to recall about 100,000 cars in South Korea for its cheating scandal in diesel emissions, Yonhap News Agency reported Thursday citing industry sources.

Audi Volkswagen Korea, the local unit of the German company, submitted to the country’s environment ministry on Wednesday its sales figures in the domestic market, details on the fabricated device and corrective measures.

The corrective measures would include compensating local buyers by recalling Volkswagen models equipped with the software that was handled to be in operation only when the models take an emissions test.

Candidates, which were estimated to be subject to the recall, are about 92,000 units of eight Volkswagen models, including the Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat, and Tiguan, and around 35,000 vehicles of six Audi models including A3, A4, A5, A6, Q3 and Q5.

Thomas Kuehl, head of Audi Volkswagen Korea, has been asked by lawmakers to attend next week’s parliamentary audit of the transport ministry as one of witnesses along with the head of BMW Korea.

The lawmakers are expected to look into the emissions deceiving scandal for Volkswagen and the excessive repair costs of imported cars for BMW.
