LONDON: Volvo is ready to launch two new models in the Indian market and they will not be variants of existing ones. According to reports, Volvo will be introducing XC90 and V40 cars in the Indian market during the month of May. Notably, the V40 hatchback is the base of the V40 Cross Country model, which was launched some years back by the car maker.
After the launch of these two models, Volvo V40 is going to become the most affordable car from the brand available in the Indian market. This model is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre engine, which is a part of the Drive-E family of powertrains from the firm. This is engine fine-tuned to develop a power level of around 151 BHP and the car is likely to come with a six-speed automatic transmission system.
This car is likely to be offered in two trim levels including one base and one high-end guise. The high-end variant of Volvo V40 is likely to feature a lot of comfort and safety options. Volvo V40 is being launched in competition with the likes of Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1-Series. The luxury hatchback segment has been performing well in the Indian market and Volvo would like to capitalise on the same. Analysts feel that Volvo V40, with all its safety features and power levels, will have a certain advantage over its competitors. Reports claim that Volvo is going to put a starting price tag of Rs. 25 lakh on the Volvo V40 hatchback.
