Wapda manages to save Rs500m in Kachhi Canal contract

LAHORE: Wapda General Manager Ghulam Abbas Anjum has said the authority has also managed to save about Rs500 million in contract KC-06A (2R) – one of the components of Kachhi Canal Project – due to usage of silt deposited in the canal prism.

The Wapda general manager revealed this during a meeting at Wapda House, which was presided over by Wapda Chairman Zafar Mahmood, and was also attended by Wapda Member (Water) Muhammad Shoaib Iqbal, Member (Finance) Anwar-ul-Haq, Secretary Amer Ahmad, Project Director Hassan Mehr, Project Manager Irfan Ullah Marwat and other senior officers concerned.

The Authority appreciated the efforts of the project authorities for timely completion of the said contract and saving about Rs500 million to the national exchequer. The Authority also directed the project management to expedite their efforts for completion of the Part-A of the Phase-I of Kachhi Canal Project, scheduled to be completed by the end October 2016. The Part-A of the Phase-I will irrigate 55,000 acres of barren land in the far-flung areas in Dera Bugti District of Balochistan province to usher in socio-economic development in those backward areas.

The contract KC-06A (2R) was awarded with a cost of Rs2,787.5 million for about 12-kilometer long portion of Kachhi Canal, earth work, lining and remaining works of various structures in this reach.
