KUWAIT CITY: A 30-year-old Kuwaiti inmate in the Central Jail tried to bribe a first lieutenant assigned in the General Sentences Enforcement Department, by offering the latter KD 1,500 in exchange for allowing him to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into the prison.

The officer said the suspect approached him several times, so permission was obtained from the Public Prosecution to arrange the entrapment in Qairawan Park where a Bedoun, born in 1991, came to meet the secret agent.

He offered a cigarette packet containing narcotics to the agent, resulting in his arrest. He tried to escape but the officers chased him. The officers then inspected the Bedoun, leading to the discovery of two packs of narcotics and two mobile phones in his possession.

They also raided his house in Sulaibiya where they discovered six packs of undisclosed drugs, a package containing shabu and cash amounting to KD 1,160 believed to be revenues from trading in drugs. During interrogation, the Bedoun admitted to the crime and he was referred to the concerned security department, along with the Kuwaiti inmate, for the necessary legal measures.
