MUZAFFARGARH: Water flow at Taunsa barrage has risen above 500,000 cusecs, inundating 44 mauzas in the area, said DCO Hafiz Shukat Ali on Friday.
Talking to APP, he said that currently the water level had reached up to 528,819 cusecs at Taunsa barrage which was the biggest rise of water level. He said that water level would reduce in a couple of days as spillways of the barrage have been opened.
He said four flood relief centers with more than 6,000 people at Kot Addu, near the barrage were currently operational where three-time meal, milk for children, medicines and animals’ food and accommodate being provided to the affectees. Anti-venom vaccine was also made available at medical camps established around the relief camps, he said.
He said, 28 boats equipped with mobile protection teams, were made available to rescue the flood-hit people round the clock. He said 600 ration packs stuffed with every necessary material and food items had been distributed among the affected families.
The DCO said 27000 acre crops have so far been submerged in the flood up till now. He said two main embankments like Abbas Wala and Hockey Super were still in better condition.
He said different teams of irrigation department were constantly supervising them to avoid any disaster.
