Water supply to non-perennial canals to be stopped from next month

MULTAN: Non-perennial canals of Irrigation Multan zone will be closed from December 1, after the end of additional water supply schedule fixed until November 30.

According to Irrigation department sources, the Director Regulation Punjab had issued additional water supply for 10 days from November 16 to 25, later it was extended five days more by November 30 due to availability of water in reservoirs.

The water was released in non-perennial canals for sowing of Rabbi crops while the 2nd watering would be released in the canals on condition of availability of water in end of January or start of February 2016 to irrigate the wheat crops.

The water was released in the non-perennial canals according per their required needs as 3450 cusec water was released in Mailsi canals per day, 1000 cusec in Rangpur, 1300 cusec in Shujabad and 1100 cusec water was released in Lodhran canal per day, sources added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the water would be released in the non-perennial canals from April 15, 2016 after ending of closure period for annual desiltation of canals.
