ISLAMABAD: World Bank has approved loan of $700 million for Phase-I of Dasu Dam, which will generate 2100 MW cheap electricity.

According to details, Dasu Dam is being constructed on Indus River in district Kohistan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Phase-I of the project, which will generate 2100 MW of cheap electricity, is expected to be completed by 2023 with a total cost of $4.03 billion. World Bank (WB) will provide $700 million for the project.

According to WB, project will generate electricity at a cost of 3 cents/unit while on the other hand; Pakistan’s average cost per unit is 8 cents.

Project will also increase economic activity in the area and decrease Pakistan’s oil imports.
