WB assures support in developmental programs of KP

PESHAWAR: Country Director World Bank (WB) Melinda Good met with Additional Chief Secretary (Planning & Development) KP, Shahzad Khan Bangash at Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad and assured support of the bank for development programs of KP.

World Bank is already supporting a number of programs including Governance and Policy Project, Economic Revitalization in KP, Southern Areas Development Project (SAP) and National Immunization Support Project. It was revealed that support would further be increased in promotion and development of tourism, agriculture, energy and micro finance, said an official statement issued here on Friday.

It is worth mentioning that worth 22 million US$ WB supported project of Southern Areas Development is aimed to improve livelihood of poor through access to social and productive infrastructure using participatory approaches in selected districts of D.I.Khan, Lakki Marwat and Tank.

The US$ 10 million Governance and Policy Project was meant to strengthen capacity of provincial government for sale tax on services collection, improving public investment management and accountability of public service delivery in water sector.

Under US$ 12 million project of economic revitalization program; WB is supporting creation of sustainable employment opportunities, generating private sector investment and laying foundation for future development of selected economic sectors in the province.

Consisting of both International Development Association (IDA) loan and MDTF Grant, National Immunization Support Project is around US$ 90 million.
