Abuja: The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has received the World Customs Organisation’s Merit Award for Exports Promotion.
Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Nde, who conferred the award on the NEPC said it was in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the international customs through exports promotion in Nigeria.
The award, which was presented to the Executive Director of NEPC, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo at the Nigerian Customs Headquarters Abuja was part of activities marking the International Customs Day 2015.
Dikko said time was ripe for the development of a synergy between the Nigerian Customs and NEPC for ensuring the increase in the generation of foreign exchange by Nigeria through exports.
He stressed the need for more collaborative efforts between the two federal government agencies in providing security for export oriented businesses in Nigeria.
In his response, NEPC Executive Director congratulated the Customs Comptroller General on successes that have been trailing the initiatives put in place by the Nigerian Customs for upping the National Revenue.
While thanking the World Customs Organisation for the award, Awolowo expressed delight in the hands of fellowship extended by the Customs to NEPC, stressing that his agency would always be prepared to collaborate effectively with the Nigerian Customs in promoting exports in Nigeria for more revenue generation.
He stressed the importance of exports as a means of generating foreign exchange, disclosing that NEPC has launched series of initiatives towards fast-tracking growth of non-oil exports in Nigeria as a means of reviving the national economy.
According to him, the target by NEPC is to ensure that Nigeria attains a balance of trade in its international trade.
