PERTH: Jesus isn’t the only one rising again this Easter weekend. A total lunar eclipse will grace our skies on Saturday evening, with the moon bathed in an orange-red glow.
A total lunar eclipse, sometimes called a blood moon, occurs when the sun, the Earth and the moon line up in a perfect straight line, with the Earth in the middle.
During the event the moon moves into the Earth’s dark shadow, the umbra. “We have to wait until 2018 to view the next total lunar eclipse in Australia,” says Sydney Observatory astronomer Geoff Wyatt.
