Advocate Riaz Ahmed Phulpoto, who represented the accused, submitted that his client is a businessman and he had nothing to do with the alleged offence. He said that the prime accused had already been released on bail and the rule of consistency required that the same treatment be meted out to his client.

According to the details of the case, several parts of 9mm were recovered from the personal baggage of Mumtazuddin at Jinnah International Airport on August 21, 2014. During interrogation, he confessed that he used to smuggle unassembled parts of weapons especially 9mm pistols for a NADRA official Col (retd) Hafeez.

The investigation officer Siraj Ahmed Panhwar told the court that Hafeez used to give smuggled weapon parts to arms dealer Haris. He contended that 9mm pistol had been used in various heinous crimes in the city, including Safoora carnage.
