Weekly inflation increases 4.07%: PBS

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reported that the weekly inflation in the country increased by 4.07 per cent in the country.

According to details surfaced on Friday, the PBS said: “The inflation was recorded at 2.22 per cent on annual basis.” The report claimed that the price of sugar has been reduced by Rs8 per kg. An average price of sugar has reached Rs180 per kg. The price of tomatoes has surged by 22.93 per cent. The price of broiler chicken meat has declined by 7.95 percent.

Meanwhile, the prices of onions, bananas, potatoes, and wheat flour have also witnessed a drop in the last week. The prices of gas have been increased 29.8 per cent and 21.4 percent, respectively.

Earlier this month, the inflation rate in the country increased by 0.95% as the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released on Friday its latest weekly inflation report.

According to the report, the annual inflation rate was recorded at -1.23%, suggesting a decrease on a year-on-year basis. During the week, the prices of 19 essential items increased, while only six items saw a decline in prices.

Among the most notable increases, the price of chicken per kilogram rose by Rs78.32, taking it from Rs346.34 to Rs424.66. Tomatoes became costlier by Rs10.56 per kg, while onions saw a price hike of Rs3.34 per kg. The price of garlic increased by Rs8.44 per kg.
