Weekly inflation witnesses decrease of 0.21pc, shows PBS data

SLAMABAD – Weekly inflation for combined income group witnessed a decrease of 0.21pc for the week ending January 22 versus the previous week, as per Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data.

Inflation for the top income group (Rs35,000 and above) was down by 0.22pc. for the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI decreased by 0.18pc over the previous week. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 0.28pc.

It was measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI). It monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of markets in 17 cities. The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review. The items which recorded increase in their average prices included garlic, bananas, onion, moong (pulse), gram (pulse), mash (pulse), masoor (pulse), gur, rice IRRI-6, eggs and mutton.
