West Pasco business leaders hope to spur improvements

NEW PORT RICHEY: West Pasco business leaders hope to spur improvements along U.S. 19 by forming a road maintenance organization.The chief goal of the newly formed umbrella group would handle much of the upkeep of proposed landscaping projects along U.S. 19, real estate broker Greg Armstrong explained.Signs for participating businesses and possibly renaming the state highway are among goals as well.

The West Pasco Chamber of Commerce and the West Pasco Board of Realtors will put the plan into gear at a meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Realtors’ headquarters, 5409 Sunset Road. The public is invited.Since February, Armstrong and others have been making the rounds to promote beautification of U.S. 19 among city and county leaders, most of whom were intrigued by the concept.

“The West Pasco Chamber and the Board of Realtors recognize the importance of the U.S. 19 economic engine to businesses as well as the tax base and the jobs it produces,” Armstrong wrote in a press release.“We will be embarking on an unprecedented effort,” Armstrong added about the introductory meeting.The road maintenance group would assume the responsibility of maintaining the medians on behalf of the cities, Pasco County and Florida Department of Transportation, Armstrong said.“It will also provide advertising opportunities for the businesses involved,” Armstrong continued.
