NEW DELHI: Backing up chats and history was always a pain in WhatsApp. Previously, there were third-party applications that could take the chat information from WhatsApp and create a backup to the Google account. Due to restrictions with the new updates, WhatsApp backup is no more possible.

Presently, within WhatsApp itself, one can make archives and backups and restore them later, but the restore does not always work. Sending WhatsApp chats via email is the only option you have for backing up your chat records, but there is no way you can restore them.

An email to developers has mentioned that the WhatsApp team is looking for developers who can translate the app into Italian. The email also mentions that WhatsApp will be developing the calling feature for Windows Phone, apart from taking backups to Google Drive.

If the information is to be believed, then Windows Phone users will soon see the calling feature and all WhatsApp users will soon be able to take backups of their chats to their Google Drive and restore them at will.

There is no official information on the backup topic or the Windows Phone WhatsApp calling feature.
