FAISALABAD: The wheat production has increased by two percent as compared to yield of previous year despite all environmental odds and hazards.
Punjab Adoptive Research Director Masood Qadir Waqar, addressing a meeting at Ayub Agriculture Research Institute (AARI) on Monday, said wheat was cultivated over 17.075 million acres of land in Punjab during previous year whereas this year 17.143 million acres of land was brought under wheat cultivation across the province.
Although most parts of the Punjab witnessed unfriendly climate as severe rains, hailing coupled with wind and thunder storms have affected the wheat crops yet the overall production of wheat in this province witnessed two percent increase as compared to the production of previous years.
The meeting also discussed wheat plan for 2016-17 and vowed to woo the farmers to cultivate wheat crops at maximum area during next season. Director Wheat Dr Makhdoom Hussain, Faisalabad NARC Principal Officer Sher Baz Khan, Dr Ejaz Ahmad of University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Dr Muhammad Zafar Agronomist and Qamar Yousuf Assistant Director Research Information Faisalabad also attended the meeting.
