Wheat production targets fixed at 25.45 million tonnes

ISLAMABAD: The federal government Thursday revised wheat production target for 2015-16 at 25.45 million tonnes.

The Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA) meeting was chaired by Federal minister for National Food Security and Research (NFS&R), Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan while representatives from all the provinces and relevant departments attended the meeting.

According to break-up figures, in Punjab production has been estimated at 19.54 million tons on the 6.94 million land while the cultivation on 1.15 million hectors land in Sindh would produce 3.69 million tons of wheat. Similarly, the production on 0.784 million hectors of land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwar has been estimated at 1.35 million tons and that of Balochistan on 0.30 million hectors at 0.87 million tons.

Earlier, during its meeting on October 14, 2015, the high-powered FCA, had fixed the wheat production target at 26 million tons from an areas of 8.973 hectares.
