MULTAN: A meeting of the All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union turned into a protest rally against proposed plan of the government to privatise Water and Power Authority (WAPDA).

The workers shouted anti-government slogans for proposing the privatisation of WAPDA and threatened to start a nationwide protest soon. The workers rally culminated at Rasheedabad Chowk.

Addressing the rally, the union leaders said that the government policies were against the nation and Pakistan.

Union General Secretary Khursheed Ahmad Khan and Balochistan chapter President Ramzan Achakzai said that the union would protect the rights of the WAPDA employees at any cost.

A large number of workers participated in the rally to express solidarity with the subordinate staff.

They said, “WAPDA is earning billions for the government, but the latter is planning privatisation of the former. It will ruin our economy.”

They warned that the workers would not let anyone privatise WAPDA as thousands of their colleagues had worked hard to establish this network.

The union warned the government to withdraw proposed decision of privatisation or else they would suspend power supply to the whole country on 23 December.
