DECATUR: Two women from Lacey’s Spring are accused of smuggling contraband to a relative incarcerated in the Morgan County Jail. Now they’re in the jail along with him.
Candice Nichole Ellenburg, 40, and Sarah Ellen Cross, 36, were being investigated by the Morgan County Drug Task Force. That investigation ended Tuesday with Ellenburg’s arrest.
Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin said the two women brought drugs and weapons to Ellenburg’s jailed brother, Harold Dwayne Ledbetter, 46.
Ellenburg was charged with one count of first-0degree promoting prison contraband and three counts of second-degree promoting prison contraband. She was jailed on a $20,000 bond.
Cross is still at large and has pending felony charges. Anyone who knows her whereabouts is asked to contact the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office at 256-301-1174.
Ledbetter was already jailed on stolen property charges, according to court records. Franklin said he is now additionally charged with attempt to commit a controlled substance crime and promoting prison contraband. The new charges carry a bond of $5,000.
