Woman apprehended with 27 tola of gold & foreign currency on Torkham Border

PESHAWAR: A women was arrested after a routine checking on Torkham Border for holding 27 Tola gold on her way from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

The sources told Customs Today on Monday that the FC officials at Torkham gate found a woman having gold in her bag. When she was searched by the officials, some 1000 Riyals and 1500 Afghani currency were also recovered.

The FC officials handed the woman over to Customs Staff of Torkham. An FIR was also lodged against her according to Customs Act-1969. When Torkham Customs Station was contacted, it said that she had been shifted somewhere for further interrogation. The value of the confiscated gold is in millions.

After strict directives from Collector Customs MCC Peshawar, coordination between law enforcement agencies have increased and the chances of smuggling have been very much decreased.

Meanwhile, about 23 kg hashish and three kg opium of Afghan origin were also seized the other day when a car was searched after receiving a tip-off.

A case of smuggling was registered against the driver who was shifted somewhere for further interrogation. Sources lauded the services of Collector Customs Qurban Ali Khan, Deputy Collector Torkham Customs Station Fazle Shakur and other high-ups of the Customs Department for curbing the smuggling with zero tolerance.
