MULTAN: Women for the first time are allowed to take part in the 10th Cholistan desert jeep rally scheduled to be held near the historical Derawar fort in Bahawalpur district on Feb 13-15.

Regional manager of the Punjab Tourism Development Corporation Ashar Iqbal Malik told newsmen here on Wednesday that women can participate at a registration fee of Rs10,000 per racer which, however, would rise to Rs30,000 in case of a sponsored vehicle.

Participation fee for four other categories (A, B, C and D) of car racers was Rs25,000 while Rs50,000 will be charged in case of a sponsored vehicle.

Two other categories S1 and S2 have been formed for stock cars (the vehicles that have not been modified from their original factory configuration).

The fee for participation under these two categories is Rs15,000 per racer and Rs40,000 in case of a sponsored car or jeep.

The issues relating to route length and identification of points for checkpoints will be finalised in a meeting to be held next week.
