KARACHI: The working of the Directorate General of Internal Audit has been affected once again, as the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) – a private firm that providing IT assistance to the offices of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) – is not providing record of past consignments.

Sources within the Internal Audit informed Customs Today that the department is no longer preparing audit-paras due to the non-availability of the record regarding past consignment.

The sources further informed this scribe that the authorities concerned of Internal Audit have already sent audit-paras linked to steel pallets, auto parts, pharmaceuticals and others to the respective field formation collectorates. However, the department has not been sending new audit-paras to the field formation collectorates for the last month or so, as PRAL has refused to provide data for scrutinising.

The sources further said that the authorities concerned of the Directorate General of Internal Audit have already taken notice of the said negligence of PRAL and also forwarded the issue to the FBR authorities.

It is pertinent to mention here that PRAL is often involved in stopping the availability of past cleared import record to the Internal Audit, which on one hand affects the working of the department, while on the other hand gives an opportunity to the importers to evade taxes due to non-availability of past record of cleared consignments.
