The program is expected to benefit 4.5 million people by providing access to clean water and sanitation, while an additional 2 million people will benefit from improved solid waste management systems.

The initiative is aimed at reducing health costs and addressing waterborne diseases, while also enhancing local governments’ capacity to raise revenue and manage resources.

The World Bank highlighted that the project will make cities more resilient to floods and droughts, contributing to sustainable urban development and environmental goals. Special attention will be given to women’s employment and decision-making roles in the project, with skill development programs and gender-compliant desks for women being set up.

The project is also focused on promoting private sector investment in the water and sanitation sectors, while supporting the Punjab Development Program and the Clean Punjab Initiative, ultimately laying the foundation for healthier communities and a prosperous Pakistan.
