ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is working on different projects of preserving the wetland to enhance the natural beauty of the Federal Capital, said CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said, adding that preservation and conservation of wetland is its prime responsibility.
He expressed these views during a cleanliness drive and awareness walk organized in collaboration with WWF here at Lakeview Park on the eve of World Wetland Day. On this occasion, Member Environment, Syed Mustafain Kazmi, officers, officials of Capital Development Authority and children of different schools have also participated in the awareness walk.
He said that according to survey, presently there are 200 wetlands in the country out of which 19 wetlands internationally renowned. The CDA chief stressed a need for wetlands, and said that wetland has great importance and is beneficial for humanity as it provide food and habitat for fish and wildlife, including other endangered species. He said that preservation and conservation of wetland improve the quality of water, stores the floodwater control the shoreline erosion, economically beneficial for natural products used by people.
Chairman Capital Development Authority said that the Authority is making all out efforts improve the sanitation system in its available resources, adding that sanitation system has been upgraded in line with modern and latest technology and using the mechanical sweeper for sanitation to overcome the environmental pollution.
He said that the Authority has installed water filtration plants, which provide clean drinking water to the residents of the city as per hygienic standards, adding that these filtration plants are being effectively monitored consistently. While CDA is collecting sample of water on regular basis for laboratory test to ensure hygienic condition, he said.
