NEW DELHI: Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has launched its 2014 flagship phone Mi 4 in India priced at Rs 19,999. The Mi 4 will be sold exclusively on Flipkart. The registrations for the first batch of sale will start from 28th January at 6pm and it will go on sale from 10 February 2015.
The Mi 4 improves upon the discontinued Mi 3 in every aspect. It is thinner at 8.9mm and has a metal body with replaceable rear panels. It has a 5-inch full HD IPS display (no Gorilla Glass) along with a 13MP primary camera capable of recording 4k videos and 8MP front Sony stacked CMOS camera.
Hardware specifications now include a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 3,080mAh battery. According to Xiaomi, the battery would last one and a half day with normal usage and will offer quick charging, reaching 60 pc charge in an hour’s time.
Other features include 8MP front camera, 3G, dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB host and radio. It will be available in 16GB and 64 GB storage variants which will be available in India later on.
Xiaomi also announced the availability of the MiUi 6 OS update. MiUi 6 comes with a revamped interface with new animations, motion graphics, flatter icons, smarter notifications and improved security features.
The number of units that will be made available in the first flash sale have not yet been announced, though Xiaomi India Head Manu Kumar Jain said between 25,000 and 40,000 units can be expected. Only the White colour variant will be available initially.
At the launch event in New Delhi, Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s Vice President of International Operations, announced the firm had sold 61.12 million smartphones in 2014. Jain reiterated that 1 million of those were from India, by December last year. The company notably made its entry into the Indian market in July.
