Xiaomi teases new smartphone, likely to unveil on April 23 in India

NEW DELHI: Chinese handset maker, Xiaomi has started teasing the announcement of a new smartphone on April 23 at a press event in the Indian capital. The company hasn’t given any details about the device in the teaser, but it did say the event will be the global premier of the smartphone, suggesting that we won’t see the India launch of an already announced phone, but a fresh new arrival from the company. The company traditionally unveils all new devices in its home market, so an Indian debut is a big deal, but makes sense as India has become the biggest overseas market for the company.

Although nothing is official at this point, it is likely that the smartphone set to be announced on April 23 will be the rumored Xiaomi Ferrari (codename). The smartphone was recently spotted in various benchmarking websites.

Xiaomi Ferrari reportedly sports a 4.9-inch full HD display and features Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor, Android 5.0, and 2GB of RAM. The phone also packs 16GB of internal storage, 13MP rear camera, and 5MP front shooter.

It will fill the gap between Redmi Note 4G and Mi 4 phones in the company portfolio. We expect a pricing around INR 14-15K, but it is always possible that the company will surprise us with an even aggressive price-tag on the launch day.

Like its China launch events, Xiaomi is allowing its fans to attend the event. If you would like to be a part of the April 23 event, you can register your interest at the company’s India website.
