NEW DELHI: Xiaomi has decided to launch Redmi 2 to Indian markets in March. The new smartphone Redmi 2 is featured with dual-SIM which runs on Xiaomi’s own MIUI 6 skin over Android 4.4 KitKat. It features a 8MP rear camera along with 2MP front-facing camera. It is backed by a 2200mAh battery.
The company has started running a contest on its Facebook page that shows a word puzzle. Users who manage to find the three key features will get a priority pass to buy the company’s upcoming smartphone.
This puzzle includes words like ‘Snapdragon,’ ‘QuickCharge’ and ‘expandable’. These features point at the possibility of the Redmi 2 as the Mi Note doesn’t support expandable storage. Considering the Moto E announcement and discontinuation of the Redmi 1s, it is quite likely that Xiaomi will be looking to bring another entry-level device to India. Given the timing of the contest, it is speculated that the new device may hit store shelves in the coming weeks.
In terms of specifications, the Redmi 2 has a 4.7 inch HD IPS display at 1280 x 720 resolution along with a 312ppi.
The phone runs on a 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It also includes 8GB internal storage which can be further expanded to 32GB via microSD card.
In terms of connectivity, it includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS besides 4G LTE (TDD/FDD) network support. It comes dipped in five colours namely yellow, pink, green, white and black.
