BEIJING: There has been talk that Xiaomi would be producing its own chipsets for use inside its own phones and tablets. Today, some more information about the chips has leaked out of China. Xiaomi plans on producing two different SoCs for release next year. By using its own low-end chip, Xiaomi can make its affordable Redmi branded handsets even more affordable. This can help the upstart manufacturer better compete with a host of rival smartphone producers in China that turn out low-priced “value” handsets.

The second chipset that Xiaomi will turn-out in 2016 is aimed at the company’s mid-range models. This SoC will offer an octa-core CPU. According to the source of this rumor, Xiaomi’s high-end phones will still use Snapdragon chipsets from Qualcomm. So far, there has been no word on the actual specs of the chipsets.
