NEW YORK: Recently Amazon opened its personal assistant Alexa for third-party apps, and now Yahoo is ready to compete with a Google Now sort of feature called Smart Stream for Aviate. You know how hard it is to locate that one app you really need especially if you have tons of pages of all apps that you don’t actually use. “I used to love Aviate but this most recent update has ruined it. What have you done with Spaces?” The latest addition to this intelligent homescreen application is something Yahoo is calling the “Smart Stream” essentially, a stream of personalized content that adjusts throughout the day based on where you are and what you’re doing at the time. It was purchased by Yahoo a few years back, and has since then been tied into several of Yahoo’s other products like News Digest.
The Smart stream feature is similar to that of Google Now, as numerous cards appear depending on the location a device picks.
So if you’re walking around town at lunch time, the Smart Stream will show you a bunch of good places to eat nearby. App also automatically brings up music apps whenever you plug in your headphones.
Notice the single relevant stream of information showing new cards like recommended restaurants from Yelp, breaking news alerts, top movies to watch, and those live sports scores of National Basteball Association and your local Major League Baseball teams.
The Smart Stream feature replaces Aviate’s Spaces section, and while some are sure to love the update, many of those who have been using Aviate for a while now are upset by the change, and are venting their feelings on the Google Play Store with many one-star reviews. Update now and see for yourself how smart your phone can be.
