LONDON: GAME has bought Events Company Multiplay for £20 million which enables you to make own yourself eSporting and event organizer.
The deal, which was announced earlier today will see GAME paying £12.6 million upfront, with a further £7.4 million in cash and shares being paid over the next three years, GamesIndustry report.
You’ll most likely know Multiplay as the organiser of the Insomnia expo, as well as being the organiser of eSports events and being a part of other community-based games.
“Like Multiplay, we put our communities at the heart of our business,” GAME boss Martyn Gibbs explained. “Together we will be able to move even faster to grow and develop our services for both gamers and suppliers in the UK, Spain and around the world.
“With our combined passion and expertise, we are looking forward to delivering more, bigger and better experiences for our communities and are excited for what the future holds.”
The acquisition is a bit of a surprise and is the most significant business moves from GAME in recent years, and comes a little under two years since the chain landed itself in administration, which the company survived.
GAME have been pretty good at organising their own little events in the form of lock-ins allowing players to check out a game way before release in an exclusive game-night, and this acquisition will likely see more events coming from the game store in the near future.
