YRP Const. Andy Pattenden told media the police activity was connected to an investigation that began in October 2014 into smuggling of controlled substances by an organized crime group.

Two people have already been taken into custody by U.S. authorities in connection with the investigation, Pattenden said.

Officers from the RCMP GTA Serious and Organized Crime Team and YRP established a perimeter in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and McCowan Road Thursday as they moved in on a third suspect.

A suspect identified as Andrie Samuels of Markham was arrested at around 11:30 a.m. He is facing charges of conspiring to import methamphetamine and attempting to import methamphetamine, police said.
