Zakir praises ASO Peshawar that brings income by seizing smuggled goods

PESHAWAR: Deputy Collector Zakir Muhammad, ASO Peshawar, has lauded the efforts of the Directorate of Anti-Smuggling Division Peshawar for aborting several attempts to smuggle the non-duty-paid goods which fetched Rs5.9million duty by impounding these contraband items in July 2017-2018.

The sources told Customs Today that Anti-Smuggling Organization got several tip-offs about the goods being smuggled to different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa via various routes for which special directives had been issued by Zakir Muhammad, Deputy Collector, ASO Peshawar, to other ASO units including Kohat, Charsada, Mardan and Nowshera.

On the direction of the ASO, the mobile squads got mobilized to frustrate any chance of smuggling, so they started searching every vehicle loaded with different varieties of products.

The team intercepted a vehicle and asked the driver for the legal documents of the goods and vehicle. But the drivers failed to present any demanded documents therefore goods were confiscated and driver was apprehended.

Similarly, an attempt was foiled to smuggle one kg heroine by the Customs Staff at the Torkham Trade and Transit Route which valued at Rs1million in the international market. The accused was held and a case was lodged against him under the Customs Act-1969.

According to details received from the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Peshawar, the ASO Peshawar Squad confiscated 3,931 yards fabric priced at Rs1million whereas it also impounded two NDP vehicles which include Toyota Corolla X car, model 2006, worth Rs1.8million and Fielder Car, model 2002, valued at Rs 1.5 million.

The Directorate of Anti-Smuggling Division at MCC Peshawar also impounded 420 liter of smuggled Mobil oil, 164 alloy rims and different kinds of contraband goods worth Rs0.79million.
