WASHINGTON: Zambia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dora Siliya, says government will not lift the ban on maize exports.Siliya emphasized that the ban was meant to force members of the Grain Traders Association to offload their stocks to millers while reducing price of staple food.
Siliya, who had a meeting with Millers Association of Zambia officials, told journalists that the Association had complained of a dispute with grain traders. She disclosed that the Food Reserve Agency had about 310,000 tonnes in storage. According to her the government would soon distribute 50,000 tonnes of early maturing seed to farmers affected by army worms.
