1100Km coastline suitable for fishery and aquaculture business: Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries

ISLAMABAD: The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and American Soybean Association has launched the “Aquaculture Handbook – Fish Farming and Nutrition in Pakistan.” Pakistani and American scientists contributed to write the handbook as part of an ongoing USDA effort to expand farmed-fish yields and farmer incomes through better fish feeding and management practices.

Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Jam Khan Shoro while addressing the ceremony as chief guest said that Pakistan has immense resources to boost its fishery sector. Elaborating he said that the country has got 1100 km long coastal line of marine water which is perfectly suitable for fishery and aquaculture business.

“Due to lack of modern technology and research in the fish farming sector, majority of fishermen were doing business in traditional ways, therefore they could not gain maximum benefits from it.” However, he said, the USDA’s project is unique opportunity for them to learn the contemporary methods being practiced in the developed world to boost their trade volume manifold. He appreciated US for introducing the USDA’s project in the country and hopped that it would further train and educate Pakistani farmers particularly in rural areas of Sindh from gross root level.
