LONDON: Law firm Hewitsons, who has offices in Cambridge, Milton Keynes and Northampton, is hosting a global legal conference in London from 24-25 April 2015.

The conference will include presentations from Hewitsons Managing Partner, Colin Jones and will bring together members of the firm’s LawExchange International (LEI) network, which Hewitsons founded in 1994. More than 60 delegates will attend the conference from 24 countries across Europe, North and South America and the Asia/Pacific region.

The LEI Spring Conference takes place at a time when many businesses, individuals and institutions are focused on how to achieve a global reach, while utilising local expertise and connections. Founded in 1994, the worldwide LEI network of independent law firms has long supported this notion.

Colin Jones, Managing Partner at Hewitsons, will give the introductory talk at the conference outlining key themes, such as how networks can provide benefits for clients with international requirements as well as his vision for Hewitsons as part of the LEI network moving forward.

Colin comments: “While we remain focussed on our long established client base, we are delighted to welcome a record number of law firms and delegates to London for the LEI Spring Conference. It is a fantastic opportunity for our global network of law firms to come together and share ideas and knowledge from differing countries. LEI gives firms, such as Hewitsons, a far broader view of global legal issues and the ability to utilise local knowledge in a wide range of countries to support our clients with international requirements.”

Along with its international partner firms Hewitsons is committed to growing the scope and influence of the LEI network, while maintaining its commitment to quality legal services.

Colin explains: “The conference will focus on the importance of quality and substance in the delivery of legal services, and the importance for law firms to reflect their clients’ approach to the procurement of legal services: an approach that increasingly requires a global outlook, but centred on local expertise and connections. The LEI network supports this idea perfectly, as we believe firmly that a global network of local legal firms can offer a greater quality of service for clients than giant multi-national practices.”

He continues: “At Hewitsons, we are in a position to work with clients worldwide through the LEI network and so can cover 24 countries across the globe. The London conference will be attended by prospective new members from the Czech Republic, Israel, Poland, the Republic of Ireland and the United Arab Emirates. LEI members are carefully selected based on their professional competence, reputation, integrity and quality of their service. In my role as Managing Partner, I look forward to continuing to supporting the expansion of this network and am delighted to welcome representatives from the five prospective member firms to London as ‘observers’ – the first stage in them potentially joining the Network.”

A keynote speech of the conference will be given by Clare Colacicchi, who is Senior Partner elect at Hewitsons, and will focus on quality assurance and how to meet client expectations in a demanding global market.

In addition to the main conference programme, Hewitsons also intends to show delegates around the sights and attractions of London, which will include a gala dinner at the British Library and exclusive access to the Magna Carta exhibition. Delegates will also have the chance to cheer on the 30,000 runners taking part in the London Marathon on 26 April, with several of the runners being those attending the two-day conference.

From London, the LEI Conference moves on, with the Autumn 2015 Conference being hosted by LEI Chairman, Eduardo Romeiro, from Lautenschlager, Romeiro e Iwamizu in Brazil. The Spring 2016 meeting will be hosted in Japan.
