AMRITSAR: Three days after the seizure of 17kg heroin from Pak-India border, the Border Security Force has made another haul of 26kg heroin, valued at around Rs130 crore in the international market.

The heroin was recovered from Rajatal border outpost in Amritsar sector, said deputy inspector general, M F Farooqui. BSF troops were patrolling the area when they noticed suspect movements across the border fence and challenged the intruders.

Meanwhile, with the withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan, the traditional poppy cultivation and heroin production has increased in that country and the drug is smuggled into India through Punjab’s porous borders, sources said.

BSF alone has recovered 257kg heroin this year, including around 100 kg in the past one-and-a-half months alone. Intelligence sources said poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has increased after scaling down of operations by international aid agencies and withdrawal of NATO forces.
