DOHA: Three customs officials have been given award for foiling attempts to smuggle into the country a large number of vehicles on forged documents at Abu Samra boarder check post and Hamad International Airport (HIA).
A miscreant approached a customs official on duty and offered to bribe him seeking his favour and allow a number of vehicles on forged documents to enter the country through the border check post.
The official tipped off the authorities concerned about the malicious intention of the person. The official was asked by the authorities concerned to agree with the miscreant to accept bribe. An trap was set up and the person was caught red-handed.
Another customs official, at HIA, caught 1,113 drug pills which were kept in the handbag of a passenger who was coming from some Asian countries. The pills were wrapped up in four separate packets of medicines. But they were packed in suspicious way which created curiosity. A medical proscription produced by the passenger also looked forged. The official on duty decided to open the packets.
A consignment of six kilograms of marijuana was also detected by a customs official at HIA from a handbag of a passenger coming from an Asian country.
All the three customs officials were given the award by Ahmed bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Chairman of Qatar’s General Customs Authority for excellent work.
