MADRID: Spanish IT and consulting company Indra said it won a contract to provide a system to manage the public bus service in the Mexican industrial hub of Monterrey.

Indra said in a statement that it will implement the most advanced version of its Operations Assistance System, known by its Spanish initials as SAE, to improve the efficiency, safety and quality of bus service in Monterrey, a city of 4 million people.

The SAE is to be installed in the 80 low-emission buses used by Monterrey’s Ecovia network, Indra said.

Information about connections with other bus or metro lines, incidents in traffic and estimated arrival times will be available to commuters on monitors at bus stations and on their smartphones and other devices via Internet.

Indra earlier provided an SAE system to manage a fleet of more than 490 Metrobus units in Mexico City.

The Spanish company has implemented similar projects in Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in Medellin, Colombia; Curitiba, Brazil; Savannah, Georgia, U.S.; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
