4000 alcohol permits renewed in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has renewed 4000 alcohol permits in Punjab. These permits were issued to the Christian community for sale and purchase of alcohol.

According to an official of the Excise Department, there are 10,000 permits holders in Punjab and all these permits are expired from June 30. The department issues these permits on specific terms and conditions to the persons of the Christian community to sell alcohol.

Excise and Taxation Department annually gets more than one billion rupees excise duty on sale of alcohol in Punjab. Director General Excise has issued a new circular to collect new surcharge from persons who wants to carry alcohol from one district to another. Officials said that this new surcharge will generate more revenue for the department of excise.
