Customs Intelligence curbs 70pc smuggling in borders areas

KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, taking lead, has managed to curb smuggling in border areas by boosting the security and surveillance.

According to the source, the higher authorities are very eager to stop smuggling whereas more than 70 percent smuggling through border areas has been reduced.

Due to smuggling of various goods that are being smuggled through different borders the country has been facing loss of billions of dollars revenue per year, not only through land areas on the other hand through high sea and containerized cargo smuggling, source informed.

The surveillance in the Sindh region especially Hyderabad and Sukkur have also been beefed up and the officials are asked to be vigilant on their check posts round the clock. Customs Intelligence Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan is personally very much eager in curbing the smuggling, source added.
