KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has accepted request of a private solar power company to set up a 50-megawatt plant in district Thatta.
Oursun Pakistan Limited approached the regulatory authority for permission to supply the generated solar power to K-Electric Limited. The Oursun Pakistan and K-Electric will enter into an energy purchase agreement (EPA) for the sale of electricity to the K-Electric. They have agreed to opt for the upfront tariff for Solar PV projects, approved by Nepra.
For solar projects from 20MW to 50MW, the Nepra has determined levelised tariff of Rs14.9966/kWh.
The environmentally friendly PV solar power generation would be a good mix with the overall power generation capability of the K-Electric.
K-Electric invited various companies to provide electricity generation through solar power generation equipment. Finally, Oursun Pakistan Limited and K-Electric agreed on the term sheet, whereby Oursun Pakistan will construct the facility in Gharo, Thatta. The company was in the process of acquiring the land.
The project cost has been estimated at $77 million. Soon after approval of the generation licence, approval of tariff, and signing of the EPA, Oursun Pakistan would get in touch with the lending institutions to arrange for the funding.
