FBR Chairman, Member Customs hold marathon session of meetings with customs officials

KARACHI: Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Tariq Bajwa and Member Customs Nisar Muhammad have held a series of meetings with Customs officials at Custom House, it is learnt here.

In the first meeting, FBR Chairman and Member Customs held meeting with the high officials of Pakistan Customs including Chief Collector-Appraisement (South) Nasir Masroor Ahmed, Collector MCC-Appraisement (East) Abdul Rashid Shaikh, Collector MCC-Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem and Collector MCC-Port Qasim Dr Agha Owais Jawwad were present in the meeting.

Both FBR Chairman and Member Customs stressed the collectors upon achieving the revenue targets in next two quarters of the fiscal year 2013-14 through formulating an effective strategy in order to increase the revenue collection of their respective collectorates.

They urged the customs officials to put a proper check on mis-declaration, inadmissible use of SROs and tax evasion. FRB Chairman while convening the meeting said that strict action would be taken against those customs officials who were found patronising the importers and customs agents in tax evasion and mis-declaration.

In the second meeting, the FBR chief and Member Customs called on the entire team of WeBOC and asked about the ongoing development in computerised system.

Project Director of Directorate of Reforms and Automation Tanveer Ahmad briefed FBR Chairman and Member Customs about the recent development in WeBOC. He informed the high officials that the pilot project of ATT and retrograde cargo were running smoothly and soon other modules would be upgraded in WeBOC, computerised system.

Both Tariq Bajwa and Nisar Muhammad directed the customs officials to ensure the firm controls on leakages in the system.

Bajwa also held meetings with Customs Preventive officials and Director General Transit Trade. Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Yahya, Collector MCC-Preventive S M Tariq Huda and Director General Transit Trade Khawar Farid Maneka were also present on the occasion.
