Islamabad: The Senate was informed that 13 counters have been established in different countries, for issuance of National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis.
The Senate resumed its session here on Thursday with Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani in the chair.
Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Balighur Rehman told the House during question hour that work is underway for the establishment of eight more counters in different countries, according to the population of Pakistani diasporas in those countries. He said that the normal period for the issuance of NICOP from Pakistani missions abroad is maximum 31 days.
To a question, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique told the House that 63 locomotives have been imported from China, during the last five years. He said each locomotive cost about 350 million rupees and have a warranty of three to five years. He said that the performance of these locomotives is satisfactory as these are based on latest technology. He said by 2017, 75 new locomotives will be procured to meet the growing demand in the country.
